Ministries

The following are some of the ministries that First Baptist Church of Altavista is presently supporting:

Pastoral Ministry

Our pastor, Dr. Michael S. Lee, provides leadership in worship, spiritual formation, pastoral care and the administration of our missions and ministries.    Our deacons and other lay ministers assist the pastor in meeting the diverse needs of our congregation and community.

Music Ministry

Music is an important part of our worship at First Baptist Church.  This ministry is led by Donna Rosser, our Director of Music and Organist.  Please visit the webpage for Music for details about our music ministry.

Deacon Family Ministry

Our Diaconate is active in ministering to the needs of the families at First Baptist Church.  Each deacon is assigned several families to maintain contact with and minister to in times of need such as an illness, a death in the family, a personal or family crisis or just to be a source of support and encouragement/

Parish Nurse Ministry

First Baptist Church is fortunate to have on our staff, Alice Bond, who serves as our parish nurse.  This is a ministry of "walking alongside" others who are experiencing illness in one form or another.  Alice is available to counsel with individuals and groups regarding their physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

Mothers Day Out Ministry

Mothers Day out is a ministry to the mothers of preschoolers in the community.  Because MDO is a ministry of First Baptist Church, it is dedicated to providing a loving, caring, and safe Christian environment for children.  It meets two days a week.

Preschool Ministry

For many years First Baptist Church has provided a weekday education program for the preschoolers of the community.  It meets daily and its goal is to provide a healthy, Christian environment for children to learn and grow physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Prayer Ministry

The people of First Baptist Church believe that God hears our prayers.  Each Wednesday evening at 6:45 p.m. there is a time of prayer for the celebrations and concerns that touch our church family.  There is also a Men's Prayer Group that meets each Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. for a time devoted to lifting up the various needs of our church family and community.

Junior Church Ministry

Junior Church is an exciting, energy filled, age appropriate worship experience for children kindergarten through sixth grade.  It meets at the 11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings.  The children attend the regular worship service in the sanctuary and then are dismissed early in the worship hour to go to the Activities Building

Afterschool Ministry

Beginning on Monday, November 5, FBC will be offering an afterschool program for elementary through middle school kids.  It will meet from the time school has dismissed until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Senior Adult Ministry

Senior Adults are active at First Baptist Church.  They meet the third Monday of each month at our Activities Building for a time of fellowship.  They also on occasion take trips to various places of interest.
