We believe the worship of God is central to the Christian experience and encourage a strong, regular practice of coming into the presence of God as a community of faith to express our love and adoration for Him. The traditional Christian calendar guides our worship. We observe Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Pentecost.
Our worship is what would be considered "traditional." However, you may come to worship and discover that we are not hesitant to use elements of various styles of worship. In addition to our own Baptist worship traditions, we value and incorporate elements of worship from other rich traditions. The choir sings a variety of music styles and the congregational singing includes not only traditional hymns, but contemporary choruses, southern gospel and ancient songs. At each service, there is a biblically based message, special music, as well as hymns, choruses, prayers, and litanies that aid us in expressing our worship, as well as silence and meditation. FBC celebrates the observance of the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of each month.
There is a Junior Church for our children that meets during the same time and provides an age appropriate worship experience.
First Baptist Church of Altavista meets each Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. for worship.
