Altavista Ministerial Association
First Baptist Church supports the ministry of the Altavista Ministerial Association. The Association is represented by the ministers of the Altavista Area churches. There are two primary ministries that the Ministerial Association supports: DAWN (Donation a Week Neighbor) and Second Helping.
DAWN provides assistance to those who are in need of emergency assistance such as food, clothing,fuel, electric bills, etc.
Second Helping is a lunch provided each week for the needy in the community. It is held each Wednesday at Altavista Presbyterian Church.
Staunton River Baptist Association
First Baptist Church is a cooperating member of the Staunton River Baptist Association. The Association has 18 churches which join together in cooperative ministry and missions.
Baptist General Association of Virginia
First Baptist Church is a cooperating member of the Baptist General Association of Virginia.
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
First Baptist Church is a cooperating member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship
Woman's Missionary Union
The Woman's Missionary Union is the missions education arm of First Baptist Church. The WMU provides provides leadership for promoting missions education and our annual offerings to missions such as the Global Missions Offering (CBF), Lottie Moon Christmas Offering (SBC), and Alma Hunt Offering for State Missions (BGAV).
The WMU also sponsors various mission action projects such as support for DAWN, Souper Bowl of Caring collection of school supplies, Adopt an Angel, Patrick Henry Birthday Ministry, and Cookie Ministry, ministry to shut ins and support for Crossmore School and our college students.
There four WMU groups that are presently meeting:
Berta Brendle/Elizabeth Hale Group (Third Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.)
Edith Vaughn Group (Second Monday, 11:00 a.m.)
Estelle Brooks Group (Quarterly, Sunday, 6:00 p.m.)
Helen Wood Group (First Monday, 7:30 p.m.)
