First Baptist Church of Altavista
Faith Community Mission
This choir leads the weekly 10:28 a.m. worship service and provides musical leadership at special services. There is an emphasis on a variety of musical styles so that all may be blessed and experience spiritual renewal. Yearly musical events include a Service of Lessons and Carols, a Christmas Eve service, a Maundy Thursday service. Singers and instrumentalists are needed for these events. These are ideal short term opportunities for those who love music but want a short-term commitment. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
There is an active 3-Octave Handbell Choir comprised of both members of First Baptist Church and other members of the community. You are invited to join the Handbell Choir if you read music and are available to practice each Sunday afternoon. The Handbell Choir rings during regular worship services and on other special occasions. The Handbell Choir has also rung at a number of special events in the community.
Anyone who plays a musical instrument and is interested in sharing his/her gift is encouraged to contact our Director of Music. Many anthems use trumpet, drums, oboe, strings or flute. Interested instrumentalists are encouraged to join in the music ministry of First Baptist Church.
Vocalists may offer their talents by sharing in the worship service or special services. Anyone who is interested in singing a solo is encouraged to contact the Director of Music.
Several artists and musical groups have come to First Baptist Church to share their musical gifts including Sheldon Johnson, Kate Campbell, John Sines, Jr., Pier 19, and Reed Creek.
